Valve's Steam gaming client is finally getting an Apple Silicon native upgrade
apple4thewin said:Hopefully that means Apple works with Steam to make a temporary Game Porting Toolkit native mod until developers decide to update their applications. -
Liquid Glass is more than skin deep on macOS Tahoe

Edit: having the choice would be optimal. If you prefer the new way, great! It’s a Mac; the horsepower for choice exists… -
How the new iPadOS 26 UI moving closer to Mac is a giant productivity boost
thedba said:Here are my “on a napkin” calculations.An iPad Pro 13” = $1299Smart keyboard w/trackpad = $319Total: $1618
OTOH MacBook Air = $999MacBook Air 15” (you know productivity) = $1199Does anyone really think that folks arguing for “productivity” and “real work” are going to start buying iPads by the truckload because of this?
iPadOS 26 should come close but I’d need the software to allow more Mac-like behaviours (e.g. a non-Safari browser, desktop equivalent) for it to genuinely be my mobile computing go-to.
I’d given up all hope that the iPad would ever grow up. Now there’s a glimmer… but I’ve fallen for that before. I’m deep in the iPad rabbit hole so I suppose I just have to wait it out. I have a 16” MBPro which will remain my main portable computing device for a while yet.

iPadOS 26 fixes nearly everything wrong with the platform after everyone already left
It seems Apple figured that since I wasn’t holding my breath anymore it would resolve a metric ton of my concerns in one release. Proof of the pudding and all that but in the end this is a hugely positive sign and step for the iPad in my use case hopes.
My biggest outstanding complaints will probably be how locked down/controlled the experience remains. It is still quite frustrating to use many apps on the iPad compared to how I use them on my Mac or other systems (I run Linux and Windows as well as macOS) and that may continue to be the case: for example iPad apps as mere containers of websites.
I feel mildly less idiotic for having decided the iPad isn’t worth it and then buying an M4 iPad Pro anyhow… -
Users demand a big discount to pay for subscriptions out of the App Store
sflocal said:There is no way in hell where I would use a 3rd-party system that will have my credit card# on file. I trust Apple in keeping my info private. That Epic Games is also Chinese-owned makes my decision even more correct.
Otherwise agreed. To get me to pay outside of Apple has been difficult for anyone outside of Steam and streaming.
That said, I don’t think that the margins of 30% for App Store sales is tenable. It is what the market bears because it’s pretty standard in all things but it’s a holdover from physical store days and makes little sense. Somewhere between 20 and 25% seems more reasonable.
